“Improving Disaster Resilience for Sustainable Cities” project was developed under our “Supporting Sustainable Cities” program supported by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom. This project aims at improving democratic governance in cities by supporting their data driven strategic planning in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilience within the framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
FNS funds our “Supporting Sustainable Cities” program since 2016. Every year, the project focuses on one central concept of sustainable city. So far, the program covered such concepts as e-participation, women’s participation, inclusive governance, innovation, data-based local policy, strengthening data ecosystems, access to data, community-based data/ Volunteered Geographic Information and data ecosystems for supporting sustainable cities.
In its 9th year, “Improving Disaster Resilience for Sustainable Cities” project aims bringing experts on disaster resilience, disaster budgeting and data-based policy making together. With the event to be organized with stakeholders from local government, civil society, academia and private sector, it is planned to develop indicators in relation to SDG variables, technical aspects of DRR, budgeting and data-driven policy development that municipalities can integrate into their strategic plans to be prepared this year. Project activities also include analyzing SDG indicators, reviewing existing data and publishing a policy brief.
