Training and Workshop: Data-Driven Strategic Planning for Disaster Risk Reduction

The event, organised within the scope of the Improving Disaster Resilience for Sustainable Cities project implemented by TESEV with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNS), aimed to bring together experts on disaster risk reduction and decision makers from different sectors. The event, which was attended by 49 participants from the public sector, local governments, civil society, academia and private sector, started with a presentation by Gizem Fidan, TESEV Project Coordinator, on international, national and local framework for disaster risk reduction. The training session of the event continued with the speeches of Samet Keskin, Marmara Municipalities Union Data and Technology Center Director, on the data management for disaster risk reduction; Nurhan Yentürk, Co-spokesperson of the Public Expenditure Monitoring Platform (KAHİP), on earthquake budgets of 30 metropolitan municipalities; and Serkan Denli, Support to Life Localization and Advocacy Manager, on locally led disaster management, humanitarian aid and advocacy. In the workshop part of the event, participants developed recommendations on data, budget and cooperation for disaster risk reduction in 5 groups. The recommendations of each group developed for central and local governments, CSOs, academia and private sector organisations will be edited and published by TESEV for better dissemination. The Improving Disaster Resilience for Sustainable Cities project will continue with the policy brief to be prepared on the subject.
